Iroquois Brewery Artwork
FOUR FRAMED PRINTS BY NICK SCHWAB, JR., born 1912: This respected artist and ad executive at Iroquois Brewery in Buffalo, NY, had a great interest in Native American history and culture. (See a feature story in Sept. 2019 New York-Pennsylvania Collector). At age 18, Schwab followed his family in the beer business, servicing taps around Buffalo for Iroquois. His art talents were soon noticed and he joined the brewery advertising department. In 1938, he created a new Indian head logo for the company, depicted in one of the prints pictured here.
These prints (all on linen paper) were acquired as a set by a young boy in the late 1940s or early 50s. They are thought to be a brewery promotional item. The images are: Sitting Bull (dated 1948); Wolf Collar (no date); Chief Calf Child (dated 1948); and Iroquois Symbol of Leadership (the Brewery logo, 1938). They appear a bit faded here due to reflections, but they are actually quite crisp and clean.
